Prison (/ˈprɪzən/), also known as a penitentiary or correctional facility, is a place where individuals are physically confined and, usually, deprived of a range of personal freedoms.

Etymology

The term "prison" comes from the Latin "prēnsiō", meaning "seizure, capture, taking".
