Riverhead is a town located in Suffolk County, on Long Island, in the United States. It is the county seat of Suffolk County and is situated at the mouth of the Peconic River.
History
Riverhead was established in 1792 as part of the division of the Town of Southold. The town has a rich history, with its development closely tied to the agricultural and maritime industries.
Geography
Riverhead is located at the eastern end of Long Island, bordered by the Long Island Sound to the north and the Peconic Bay to the south. The town covers a total area of 201.3 square miles, of which 67.4 square miles is land and 133.9 square miles is water.
