Tina Fey
American actress, comedian, writer, and producer
Elizabeth Stamatina "Tina" Fey (born May 18, 1970) is an American actress, comedian, writer, and producer. She is best known for her work on the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live (SNL) and for creating the acclaimed comedy series 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
Early life
Fey was born in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. She is the daughter of Donald Henry Fey, a university administrator, and Zenobia "Jeanne" Xenakes, a brokerage employee. Fey attended Cardington-Stonehurst Elementary School and Beverly Hills Middle School in Upper Darby. She graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1988.
Fey attended the University of Virginia, where she studied drama and graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Career
Saturday Night Live
Fey joined Saturday Night Live as a writer in 1997. She became the show's first female head writer in 1999. Fey also co-anchored the show's Weekend Update segment alongside Jimmy Fallon and later Amy Poehler.
30 Rock
Fey created the NBC comedy series 30 Rock, which aired from 2006 to 2013. She starred as Liz Lemon, the head writer of a fictional live sketch comedy show. The series received critical acclaim and won several awards, including Primetime Emmy Awards.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Fey co-created the Netflix comedy series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt with Robert Carlock. The show premiered in 2015 and ran for four seasons. It starred Ellie Kemper as a woman who starts a new life in New York City after being rescued from a doomsday cult.
Film
Fey has appeared in several films, including Mean Girls (2004), which she also wrote, Baby Mama (2008), Date Night (2010), Muppets Most Wanted (2014), and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (2016).
Personal life
Fey married Jeff Richmond, a composer and producer, in 2001. They have two daughters. The family resides in New York City.
Awards and honors
Fey has received numerous awards for her work, including Primetime Emmy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and Screen Actors Guild Awards. In 2010, she received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
