The University of Khartoum (UofK) (Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'strict' not found. ) is a public university located in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan. It is the oldest and most prestigious university in Sudan, established in 1902 as the Gordon Memorial College and later renamed in 1956 following Sudan's independence.
History
The University of Khartoum was originally founded as the Gordon Memorial College in 1902, named after General Charles George Gordon, a British army officer. The institution was established to provide higher education and training to Sudanese students. In 1956, following Sudan's independence from British-Egyptian rule, the college was upgraded to a university and renamed the University of Khartoum.
