Betty Gikonyo (pronounced: Betti Gikonyo) is a renowned Kenyan cardiologist and healthcare entrepreneur. She is the co-founder and CEO of the Karen Hospital, a leading private healthcare facility in Nairobi, Kenya.

Etymology

The name "Betty" is of English origin and is a diminutive form of "Elizabeth", meaning "God is my oath". "Gikonyo" is a Kikuyu name from Kenya, meaning "of the weaver bird".

Career

Betty Gikonyo started her career as a cardiologist after graduating from the University of Nairobi with a degree in Medicine. She later specialized in cardiology, becoming one of the few female cardiologists in Kenya. In 2006, she co-founded the Karen Hospital with her husband, Dr. Danie Gikonyo, who is also a cardiologist. The hospital has since grown to become one of the leading private healthcare facilities in Kenya, offering a wide range of medical services.
