Suicide awareness (pronunciation: /ˈsuːɪsaɪd əˈwɛːnəs/) is the understanding and recognition of the signs, symptoms, and risk factors associated with suicide. It also involves the knowledge of resources and strategies to prevent suicide and provide support for individuals who may be contemplating suicide.
Etymology
The term "suicide" comes from the Latin suicidium, from sui caedere, "to kill oneself". "Awareness" is derived from the Old English gewær, meaning "watchful, vigilant".
