Carol J. Adams

Carol J. Adams is an American author, feminist, and animal rights advocate. She is best known for her groundbreaking book The Sexual Politics of Meat, which explores the intersections of feminism and animal rights.

Early Life and Education

Adams was born in New York, United States. She received her Bachelor's degree from the University of Rochester and later earned a Master's degree in Divinity from Yale University.

Career

Adams began her career as a social worker in Rochester, New York. She later transitioned into academia, teaching at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University.

In 1990, Adams published The Sexual Politics of Meat, a book that has since become a classic in the fields of feminism and animal rights. The book argues that the oppression of women and animals in society are interconnected, a concept now known as intersectionality.

Adams has since written several other books on the subject, including The Pornography of Meat and Pray the Devil Back to Hell. She has also edited several anthologies on animal rights and feminism.

Activism

In addition to her writing, Adams is a prominent activist in the animal rights and feminist movements. She has spoken at numerous conferences and events, advocating for the rights of animals and women.

Personal Life

Adams is a practicing vegan, a lifestyle choice that aligns with her advocacy for animal rights. She currently resides in Texas with her partner.
