Etymology

The term "Clinical Microbiology Reviews" is derived from three words. "Clinical" (klin-i-kal) is derived from the Greek word "klinikos", which means "bed". In this context, it refers to the observation and treatment of actual patients rather than theoretical or laboratory studies. "Microbiology" (my-kro-bi-ol-o-gy) is derived from the Greek words "mikros" (small), "bios" (life), and "logia" (study of). It refers to the study of microscopic organisms. "Reviews" (re-views) is derived from the Middle English word "reviewen", which means "to see again". In this context, it refers to a critical evaluation of a topic in detail.
