Fluid mosaic model
Fluid mosaic model is a concept used to describe the structure of cell membranes. Proposed in 1972 by S.J. Singer and Garth Nicolson, the model explains how the lipid bilayer—comprising primarily of phospholipids, cholesterol, and proteins—behaves more like a fluid than a solid. This fluidity allows for the lateral movement of proteins within the lipid bilayer, akin to boats floating in a sea of lipids.

Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are attached to proteins and lipids on the extracellular surface of the membrane. They play key roles in cell-cell recognition and adhesion, forming the glycocalyx, a sugar-coating that provides a unique identity to cells.
