Harry Lane (August 28, 1855 – May 23, 1917) was an American physician and politician from the state of Oregon. He served as the Mayor of Portland, Oregon from 1905 to 1909 and as a U.S. Senator from Oregon from 1913 until his death in 1917. Lane was a member of the Democratic Party.

Early life and education

Harry Lane was born in Corvallis, in the Oregon Territory, on August 28, 1855. He was the grandson of Joseph Lane, the first Governor of Oregon Territory and a U.S. Senator from Oregon. Harry Lane attended Willamette University in Salem, where he earned his medical degree.

Medical career

After completing his education, Lane practiced medicine in various locations in Oregon. He became known for his work in public health and was appointed as the superintendent of the Oregon State Hospital in Salem.

Political career

Mayor of Portland

In 1905, Lane was elected as the Mayor of Portland, Oregon. During his tenure, he focused on issues such as public health, infrastructure, and municipal reform. He served two terms as mayor, leaving office in 1909.

U.S. Senator

In 1912, Lane was elected to the U.S. Senate as a member of the Democratic Party. He took office on March 4, 1913.
