MXI1
MXI1 is a gene that encodes a protein in humans. This protein is a member of the Myc family of transcription factors and has a role in cell cycle regulation, apoptosis, and cellular differentiation.
Function
The MXI1 protein is a transcriptional repressor. It binds to E-box DNA sequences (5'-CANNTG-3'). This protein interacts with histone deacetylases and inhibits the transcriptional activity of Myc, which controls cell cycle progression and proliferation.
Clinical Significance
Alterations in the MXI1 gene have been associated with several types of cancer, including prostate cancer, breast cancer, and neuroblastoma. Overexpression of MXI1 can inhibit Myc-mediated transformation and apoptosis, suggesting a potential role for MXI1 in cancer therapy.
