Christ's College is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge. The college was founded by Lady Margaret Beaufort in 1505, and it is one of the oldest colleges in Cambridge. The college is renowned for its academic excellence and has produced many notable alumni, including Charles Darwin and John Milton.
History
Christ's College was originally established as God's House in 1437 by William Byngham, a London parish priest. In 1505, Lady Margaret Beaufort, mother of King Henry VII, refounded the institution as Christ's College. The college's full name is "The College of the Blessed Mary and Saint John the Evangelist."
Architecture
The college's main site is located on St Andrew's Street, and it features a mix of architectural styles. The First Court, which dates back to the 16th century, is one of the oldest parts of the college. The chapel, completed in 1510, is a fine example of Perpendicular Gothic architecture.
Academics
Christ's College is known for its strong academic performance. It consistently ranks high in the Tompkins Table, which ranks Cambridge colleges based on undergraduate examination results. The college offers a wide range of subjects and has a strong emphasis on both teaching and research.
