Jesus College is one of the colleges of the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England. The college was founded in 1496 on the site of the twelfth-century Benedictine nunnery of St Mary and St Radegund. The college's full name is "The College of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint John the Evangelist and the glorious Virgin Saint Radegund, near Cambridge".
History
Jesus College was established in 1496 by John Alcock, then Bishop of Ely. The college was built on the site of the Benedictine nunnery of St Mary and St Radegund, which had fallen into disrepair. The nunnery's church became the college chapel, and the cloister was converted into the college's first court.
