Forearm

The forearm (/ˈfɔːrɑːrm/; from Old English fore + arm) is the region of the upper limb between the elbow and the wrist. It is made up of two bones: the radius and the ulna.

Etymology

The term "forearm" is derived from the Old English words fore, meaning "in front of", and arm, referring to the upper limb of the human body.

Anatomy

The forearm consists of two long bones, the radius and the ulna, forming a radioulnar joint that allows for movement of the forearm. The radius is located on the lateral side (thumb side) of the forearm, while the ulna is located on the medial side (little finger side).

The forearm houses several important muscles, including the flexor muscles that control the bending of the wrist and fingers, and the extensor muscles that control the straightening of the wrist and fingers. It also contains many nerves, including the median nerve, ulnar nerve, and radial nerve, which provide sensation and motor function to the forearm and hand.
