Harvard Library is the umbrella organization for the libraries of Harvard University, located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It is one of the largest academic library systems in the world, with a vast collection of books, manuscripts, maps, and other materials.

History

The origins of Harvard Library date back to 1638, when John Harvard bequeathed his collection of 400 books to the newly established Harvard College. This initial donation laid the foundation for what would become an extensive and diverse library system.
