The Simpsons is an American animated television series created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The series is a satirical depiction of American life, epitomized by the Simpson family, which consists of Homer Simpson, Marge Simpson, Bart Simpson, Lisa Simpson, and Maggie Simpson. The show is set in the fictional town of Springfield and parodies American culture, society, television, and many aspects of the human condition.

History

The Simpsons first appeared as a series of shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show on April 19, 1987. It was later developed into a half-hour prime time show and debuted on December 17, 1989. Since then, it has become the longest-running American sitcom and the longest-running American animated program.
