The family was created by Matt Groening and first appeared on television in The Tracey Ullman Show on April 19, 1987. The Simpsons are a satirical depiction of a working-class American family, consisting of Homer Simpson, Marge Simpson, and their three children: Bart, Lisa, and Maggie.
