Venlafaxine - (pronounced) (ven-luh-FAK-seen) A drug used to treat depression and certain anxiety disorders. It can also be used to treat hot flashes in menopausal women or to treat breast cancer. Venlafaxine increases levels of the chemicals serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain, which help improve mood. It's a type of antidepressant and a type of serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Also called Effexor
